Start with Prayer

According to AdventHealth, in 2020, 75 percent of Americans said prayer was essential to their daily life. They have personally seen and experienced the benefits of daily prayer. For some, prayer brings peace, comfort, and joy. For others, prayer causes uncertainty and confusion because they don’t know what it is or how to do it. Prayer is not just a topic to be studied, discussed, or read about. Prayer sets the tone for our Christian life.

Surrender

Prayer is an act of surrender; it’s taking your concerns to God instead of figuring them out alone. It’s trusting that God is good and wants to do good things for you. When we give God our request, we release the outcome into his hands and trust that He will be with us until the end. Prayer is communicating to God, our Father. It’s not simply thinking about God or having concerns. It’s staying in touch with God. Prayer is a two-way conversation with God.

Communicate

When we pray, we communicate with the God who created us; it is a blessing and a privilege. We often pray in times of sickness or trouble or at church when the pastor tells us to bow our heads, “Let’s pray.”
But there is so much more for us in prayer than just reciting churchy phrases. Through prayer, we are in communion with the one who made everything, knows everything, and desires to hear from us!

Make Space

Prayer is making space for God; it’s sharing our hopes, dreams, concerns, fears, thoughts, and needs with God. It’s asking God to reveal more of himself to you. God makes it clear that his desire is that we seek him in all things, no matter how big or small. Communicating with him is a natural part of our everyday.

Let’s Pray

Lord God, I pray that you will restore my heart of worship today. There have been so many times I have allowed my worldly worries and situation to set the tone of my worship, but today helped me to change that, and may my worship set the tone of my response to the situational problems of my life. As David says, the Kingdom is Yours, and You rule over all. Come and reign over my life in Jesus’ name, Amen.
